Pittsburgh Stone and Waterscapes, LLC was founded originally under the name, Garden Graphics Landscaping, in 1982 by Bob Blunkosky. The original services offered included: Landscape installation, sprinkler systems, and lawn installation along with landscape and lawn maintenance. Jeff Blunkosky, Bob’s son, was involved in maintaining the plant nursery and shop grounds at the age of 12 along with working summers and weekends on site, ultimately working full time for the company in 1994. In 2002, Garden Graphics changed its name to Pittsburgh Stone and Waterscapes, LLC. The name change came about due to the company’s expansion of its previous services to now include 3D design, low voltage lighting, drainage solutions, excavation and especially a large role in the hardscape industry. They added services that included the use of pavers, boulders, retaining walls, ponds, waterfalls, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, pools, and carpentry components for residential clients creating our signature service of the Outdoor Living Space.
By 2014, Pittsburgh Stone and Waterscapes maintained a yearly sales growth by 15% on average doing over two million dollars of installations in 2014. We have earned media recognition from National TV (HGTV), newspaper/magazine articles (Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, House Tends, Lawn and Landscape, Total Landscape Magazine). We are two-time Unilock Award of Excellence Winners, and 2013 Pittsburgh Builders Association’s “Winner for Best Outdoor Living Space” .
Pittsburgh Stone and Waterscapes was founded and currently run as a family-owned business. We have maintained our core fundamentals focusing on operating a professional company, staying on the cutting edge of the newest landscape trends, and striving to exceed our customers’ expectations.
Jeff Blunkosky – Owner/President
Jeff has been involved with the company from an early age. He was taught the business/industry from the ground up from his father, Bob. He was taught a strong work ethic and to take pride in every task regardless of the size. This enabled him to learn every facet of the business which ultimately gave him the ability to run and grow the company.
Grounds Keeper: At age 12, he was taught to take care of the plant nursery and the five-acre grounds the company was located on. This was done after school, on weekends, and summers. (add space)
Part- time Serviceman: At age 15, Jeff began working for the company on weekends and summers on the landscape crews. This taught him the basic fundamentals of landscape materials, maintenance, equipment, tool use, and working together as a team.
Full Time Serviceman 1994 – 1999: At age 17, Jeff graduated high school and began working full time for the company as a serviceman. His responsibilities mostly revolved around landscape installation/maintenance and equipment operating. During this time, he was introduced to hardscaping and water features. He received his ICPI and NCMA certifications for hardscape and worked along some of the best contractors in the industry.
Crew Foreman 1999 – 2005: At age 23, Jeff’s skills and responsibilities in the field promoted him to a field management position. During this time, he furthered his skill set to teach serviceman the company’s policies and operations. He was dealing first hand with the customers and vendors. He was responsible for managing/installing hardscape, landscape, and water feature projects. At age 23, his crew was responsible for building a 20,000 gallon water feature that received national attention through HGTV and was a large stepping stone in his career. He also used this time to study and experiment with the different uses for land and materials on projects that would eventually play into his design capabilities.
Chief of Operations 2005 – 2011: At age 29, Jeff would be promoted to the next level in the company. His responsibilities continued managing and installing projects, teaching the field staff, but also getting involved with marketing, sales, design, and strengthening the company’s core by beginning to create and document company systems. He also would form strong relationships with trade partners in the industry along with accumulating a great number of resources to accommodate his clientele and grow his business.
President/Owner 2011 – Current: At age 35, Jeff would be given the opportunity to purchase the business from his father and would take over company operations. As the company continued to grow rapidly over the years, he knew it was imperative to structure the company in a systematic format for all employees to follow. This allowed for new positions to be created, outside contractors and resources utilized, more efficient productivity, and an overall well-organized company. From 2011 to 2014, the company sales grew by 105%.
Jeff continues to work in the field next to employees (when possible) as it’s his passion, and working in the elements will always be in his heart. He and his dad continue to work together to continue to grow the family legacy through their work and shared enthusiasm for the industry. He currently resides in Peters Township with his wife, Leslie, and two sons.
Robert Blunkosky: Project Manager/ Designer
Robert Blunkosky established the company, Garden Graphics Landscaping, in 1982. Prior to starting the business, Bob had been involved in the civil engineering field for 15 years. A background in design and drafting, along with further horticultural education, paved his way to having his own business. Never being content to sit behind a desk, this allowed him to work on projects from design to construction in the field.
Over the next 30 years, the family-owned business expanded into all facets of outdoor projects to meet the demands of its customer base. Garden Graphics became Pittsburgh Stone and Waterscapes to reflect this change. The business has steadily grown over the years and is proud of the projects it has completed.
The idea of creating outdoor creations that our clients would enjoy year after year has been most rewarding for Bob. In 2012, ownership of the company was turned over to Bob’s son, Jeff Blunkosky, which allows Bob to be semi-retired, but still active as a project manager.
Our Pittsburgh Stone team members consist of: One office manager and two landscape architect/project coordinators. In addition to our team, we also work with several subcontractors. Our outside contractors we utilize in our projects consist of: landscape/hardscape installers, architects, interior/exterior carpenters, land developers, electricians, plumbers, civil engineers, pool builders, maintenance contractors, sprinkler systems, patio furniture/BBQ components, and more.
